#TRAVELINGTINK ROAD TRIPS - SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS

Tinkerbelle in Salem, Massachusetts

Tinkerbelle in Salem, Massachusetts

Autumn is here and I’m so excited! I can’t wait to feel the crunch of the leaves under my paws, smell the woodsmoke in the air and feel the cool breezes in my fur. This is such a beautiful time of year, and it just makes me feel so cozy and fabulous!

What better way to celebrate the beginning of spooky season than to have a wonderfully wicked witchy weekend in Salem?

The Salem Inn is the only pet friendly boutique hotel in Salem, MA. It’s packed with great history and friendly hospitality - and the owners Dick and Diane will greet you with a smile. The hotel is located within three historic homes and each of the 40 guest rooms is named for a prominent piece of Salem history.

Pets of any size are welcome for an additional fee of $20 per night, with pet friendly rooms located in the stunning West House (which dates back to 1834).

The hotel has all the little details that make you feel pampered - like a complimentary breakfast, cozy fireplaces in the rooms, four-poster beds and beautiful antiques. I felt like very pampered pooch in our elegant suite.

Once my human and I were settled into the lovely historic hotel, we set out to explore Salem!

Salem is known for the infamous 1692 witch trials, during which several locals were executed for allegedly practicing witchcraft. One of the spookiest cities in New England, this destination is steeped in history and there are lots of opportunities to learn about its mysterious past.

We started by visiting the historic “Witch House” - the only standing structure in Salem with direct ties to the Salem Witch Trials. It is also known as the “Jonathan Corwin House” as Judge Jonathan Corwin was one of the judges who investigated claims of witchcraft in the 17th century. While in Salem, you can take a tour of the home and learn about what life was like for those in Salem in the 1600s.

We also took a tour of Salem 1630: Pioneer Village. It’s an interactive outdoor museum that will make you feel like you have stepped back in time. There’s even a blacksmith shop, a medicinal gardens, perfectly recreated thatched roof cottages and so much more. It was built back in 1930 to mark the 300th birthday of Massachusetts and it is the first living history museum in America. It’s 100% pet friendly and one of my favorite attractions we visited during our trip.  Plus, did you know that the Pioneer Village is where they shot some of the scenes for Hocus Pocus? As a Hocus Pocus fan, I loved exploring the city and striking a pose in some of the iconic filming locations.

After a big day of exploring, I was very happy to rest my tired paws in our luxurious suite. The Salem Inn Westhouse whirlpool suites are spacious, relaxing and pet friendly. The huge whirlpool bath offered a delightfully indulgent way to unwind.

The rest of our epic getaway consisted of a lot of exploring the downtown area, and seeing the Hocus Pocus filming locations!

This historic trip in Salem was the perfect fall getaway!
